This is a well organised book with substantial amount of material to make it a formidable manual of reference. The author has thoughtfully divided it into three parts. The first deals with autopsy techniques, both hospitals as well as medico-legal. The second with special situations, techniques of preservation of evidence, health and safety implications, and the legal implications of autopsy practice.

The first section part contains sections of the philosophy of autopsies along with techniques of dissection of different organ systems. In addition there are very useful chapters on medical microbiology, chromosome studies and post-mortem chemistry.

The techniques of dissection of each system are well presented and make easy reading. Personally I would have liked to see a more detailed account of general evisceration. The author does mention the reason for not being included. However my personal plea is because the practice of autopsies is in danger of becoming a 'lost art' in the west, due to legal, emotional, and religious constraints. This having been said, it should not in any way devalue the importance of this book.

The description of the dissection of systems in the context of specific pathology is well written and extremely useful for all morbid anatomical pathologists.

The second part contains detailed and tabulated presentation of different diseases, the findings expected at autopsy, and the technique best used for them. This makes the book a very valuable source of reference for all pathologists, especially the inexperienced and trainee pathologists.

This book is a 'must', for every department of pathology as well as each pathologist.
