Forensic Medicine is mainly a practical subject, still while writing a book, majority of authors concentrate only on its theoretical part with less emphasis on practical application. This deprives undergraduates, postgraduates and even the junior faculty of the vast practical experience of stalwarts of the field.
Presently only a few practical oriented books are available in forensic medicine. This book is a deviation from available literature salient features being colored pictures, diagrams and proformas for day to day medico legal work. Most impressing are chapters on Legal aspects of general medical practice, Acts in relation to medical profession, court evidence, guidelines & procedure of post mortem examination. These topics though being of maximum interest and use to students and medical officers are rarely touched by the authors.
What I liked most about the book is its simple language, photographs and diagrams supporting almost each and every point of importance. Previous existing texts on medico legal report proformas are part of every practical book but author have gone a step further in supplementing these with sample filled formats, this will surely help in larger understanding of the intricacies of medico legal report writing.
Detailed description of toxicology specimens, weapons, soft autopsy specimens, histopathological slides, X rays and bones supported by excellent pictures depicting salient features will surely be of help for last minute revision before the exams.
Chapter on DNA profiling, Forensic laboratory and mortuary set up makes this book complete yet concise.
I feel honored as well as privileged to write a review for this book and would like to recommend it for all doctors especially those involved to any extent in medico legal work.
