At the very outset, I am delighted to write this review for the “Atlas of Forensic Pathology” authored by Dr B Suresh Kumar Shetty, Dr Prateek Rastogi, Dr Tanuj Kanchan, Dr Jagadish Rao Padubidri and Dr YP Raghavendra Babu, from the Department of Forensic Medicine, Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore (A Constituent College of Manipal University, Manipal). The atlas comprises of more than 250 high quality colour photographs related to different aspects of Forensic Pathology. Each chapter begins with a brief introduction to the topic that supplements to the photographs with explanatory legends. The clarity of the photographs and the full spectrum of the lesions provide a learning opportunity for the neophyte as well as relevant information to the specialist. Practical aspects in the practice of Forensic Medicine have been dealt with excellently through illustrations. Authors have made an earnest effort to include all sections of Forensic Pathology while designing the core content of this atlas. The Atlas speaks volumes on the efforts put forth by the authors in bringing out this comprehensive work.
A forensic pathologist’s job does not end with an autopsy, but foresee issues that could arise, weeks, months, years or even decades after the crime has occurred; hence, a complete understanding of the subject is very essential. Pictures are invaluable in capturing the interest of the reader, and thus, this atlas will be a useful addition to the existing body of knowledge. Atlas of Forensic Pathology would enable the health care, legal and police professionals achieve their goals of providing justice to the society. This manual will be useful for the undergraduates, postgraduates pursuing MD in Forensic Medicine, general practitioners, police officers and the legal fraternity. I strongly recommend this book to be an integral part of learning the art and science of Forensic Medicine to both the undergraduates and postgraduates of forensic medicine. Apart from the students, every forensic medicine practitioner should possess a copy of this manual for ready reference.
