There was an urgent requirement of a book on ‘forensic medicine & toxicology’, which would be helpful to the students of alternate system of medicine especially in the homeopathic system of medicine. The book under review, namely ‘forensic medicine & toxicology for homoeopathy’ comes among already very renowned books existing in market.
The question naturally arises - why another book on the subject, when there are many books already in the market. Probably the answer is that most existing books for homeopathy students are difficult to understand. This causes untold misery to the students in the subject.
Professor Anil Aggrawal is a big name in the field of forensic medicine. He is currently a director professor of Forensic Medicine at the famed Maulana Azad Medical College in New Delhi, and is a member of panel of Delhi government for conducting controversial post mortems. He has given his expert opinion on several famous high profile cases. He has also done many literary works & has written three more book for MBBS students, reviewed elsewhere within this journal.
I met the worthy author at many times in examinations and suggested him to write a book on forensic medicine for homoeopathic students. Today I am very much pleased to see the publication of forensic medicine book only for the students of homoeopathic world.
I studied this book and found it very helpful as there are more than 250 mnemonics and many tables are presented in the book.
For example to remember cephalic index of different races-‘dumb horse’.

The pictures depicting topics are marvelous and relevant. It is justified with given topic but at some places what I feel there should be sketches to explore anatomical landmarks.
The chapter on identification is very important from examination point of view also which is made easier by author by adding mnemonics and many tables regarding differences.
There is very good description about Hindu marriage act, about-
a) Conditions of valid Hindu marriage
b) End of marriage -1.null & void
2. Voidable
3. divorce
...In totality this book is written keeping in the view that homoeopathic students need a better way to understand forensic medicines with honest approach. I hope this book will help students a lot...

Appendix 1, 2, 3 &4 are very useful & informative for the students which are not mentioned in any book to the best of my knowledge.
But during review I found that there should be few more additions which make this book more useful for BHMS students. These can be summarized as below:
1. There should be introduction of new chapter in the beginning about Indian evidence act (IEA), Indian penal code(IPC) & criminal procedure code(CrPC) so that BHMS student can easily understand this during the course of his or her further study as being a medical student they have no idea regarding legal terminology.
2. Another suggestion is that there should be introduction of HCC MSR 2013 ACT, (Homoeopathy Central Council Act, Minimum Standard of Education, 2013) along with Indian Medical Council Act 1956 so that students of this system of medicine can understand the act under which their college is regulated & governed.
3. There should be more emphasis in chapter 10-‘artefacts’ where there should be induction of types of artifacts.
4. It is suggested that there should be a picture of enlargement of abdomen under the topic signs of pregnancy.
5. There are certain poisons which are present in the syllabus of toxicology but not described in book for example-Hyoscyamus poisoning, Conium maculatum poisoning.
In totality this book is written keeping in the view that homoeopathic students need a better way to understand forensic medicines with honest approach. I hope this book will help students a lot & its new addition will come with few amendments which I suggested.
