The first thought that comes to one’s mind on looking at the book is that why another Ophthalmology book for the PG entrance exams? But as you go through it the only thought that comes to your mind is why any other book?
This is what I felt after going through the book. Although mainly focusing on Post-graduate examinations it also helps a lot during the Ophthalmology university examinations as MCQ’s constitute 1/4th of the total marks of the theory exams and also helps in clearing a lot of basic concepts about the subject which are a must. The author Dr.Ruchi Rai has put in a lot of hard work and it seems that incorporated her vast teaching experience into a perfect blend in the form of this book.
The book comes in two sections. The first one dedicated to the Questions and answers and the second one containing author’s notes.
The book aptly covers the most important PG exams in India and their last 10 year’s questions imply that the list is exhaustive. There are plenty of diagrams, flow charts and mnemonics to aid the student.
The high point of the book is definitely the answers with detailed explanations in point form which glues the topic into the mind of the reader during the very first reading.
The collection of MCQs is exhaustive and covers all aspects of Ophthalmology. They are arranged according to the year and the PG exam which gives us a brief idea about the patter of questions that come in a particular exam.
The book offers you the opportunity to evaluate yourself before you take the final leap and suggest some very important facts that give you an edge over the others, and this is what matters in the entrance exams.
...After going through the Second section you would want to preserve the book for the rest of your life. The author has put all her clinical experiences, knowledge and skills into it, which helps you to have a grasp over the whole subject of Ophthalmology in a very short time which is especially important as there is always shortage of time...

After going through the Second section you would want to preserve the book for the rest of your life. The author has put all her clinical experiences, knowledge and skills into it, which helps you to have a grasp over the whole subject of Ophthalmology in a very short time which is especially important as there is always shortage of time. The line diagrams, charts, mnemonics would make you exclaim Ophthalmology was never this easy. It saves you time to refer different textbooks. The concepts become crystal clear and this helps a lot in University exams too along with the PG exams. I can say that based on my own personal experience.
But what’s lacking in the book in an Index, and it becomes a bit of a time-consuming affair to search for a particular topic. Also the author could have provided a few blank pages for the reader to be able to write down his/her own notes, if required. But barring these two, the book seems to be complete in every sense.
To summarize in one line, "The book is a must have for any PG entrance exam as well as for the Ophthalmology university exams".
