Ist ANNUAL CONFERENCE OF THE INDIAN ASSOICATION OF MEDICOLEGAL EXPERTS (IAMLE) - 2010![]() |
![]() |
Dr. R.K.Sharma, former faculty of the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, conducted an awe-inspiring academic conference in the cool and invigorating hill environs of Kodaikanal (at Hotel Kodai Resort) on 25 and 26 January 2010. This was the first conference of its kind, in as much as there is no medical college in Kodaikanal. Traditionally academic conferences are being held in medical college campuses.
More than 100 delegates from about 15 countries participated in the conference. It was truly a multinational and multidisciplinary conference. There were teaching faculties from law departmetns, hospital administration and several medical disciplines such as forensic medicine, gynaecology and obstetrics, orthopedics, psychiatry, pharmacology etc. Significantly, the participants braced all odds like dense fog, waiting at airports and difficult and circuitous mountain travel to attend this conference.
The deliberations went on for two days during which participants delivered their talks and shared their experiences. Talks and deliberations continued on the sidelines during breaks too. Many participants could be seen in the evenings strolling along the famous Coaker's Walk, and sharing their medicolegal experiences with one another.
The meet began with the inaugural speech by Director Professor Dr. P.C. Dikshit, of Maulana Azad Medical College, on 25 Jan 2010 at about 9.30 am and ended formally at 2 pm on 26 Jan 2010 with the National Anthem. Quite appropriately because 26 January happens to be the Republic Day of India
The meet was not limited to just academic sessions. There were a lot of other activities to do after the academic deliberations such as gyms, games, sports, cycling, table tennis, chess, ayurvedic body massage etc. and the participants relaxed fully after the academic sessions. A number of participants were spotted playing chess and table tennis in the evenings after the exhausting academic sessions. While some participants went away sight seeing to far off places like Silver Falls, others could be seen cycling around the Kodai lake.
The food on both days was excellent. There was a pre-conference dinner accompanied by relaxing drinks. The traditional buffet was in the form of logfire in the open garden with soft music.
