Review of Radiology

This is a pocket-size book of 148 pages. The cover and back pages are glossy and in colour giving the book an attractive feature. The text including the drawings is in black and white. This should keep the price of the book within the reach of its target audience-postgraduate medical students. The print quality is excellent.

The author claims that this is the only textbook covering both Radio diagnosis and Radiotherapy. The reviewer is not in a position to verify this claim. Assuming it is true for the English language, how about other languages?

The text is arranged in three sections:

Section 1, General Radiology deals with what could pass for Principles of Radiology

Section 2 deals with Systemic Radiology. The author should have confined the text to radiological modalities of the systems including important features to note in the images. The stray into WHO classification of bronchogenic carcinoma (page 25) appears out of place especially as readers are not shown any characteristic features of each tumor type in radiological investigation. The same applies to Tuberculosis (page 54). Here 'haematogenous route' 'golf hole ureter' appear misplaced also.

...The author should be congratulated for assembling basic information on this topic (Radiotherapy). Radiotherapy is not a common facility. Most doctors especially in the developing world have no practical experience of the subject in any form...

Section 3 deals with Radiotherapy. The author should be congratulated for assembling basic information on this topic. Radiotherapy is not a common facility. Most doctors especially in the developing world have no practical experience of the subject in any form.

Section 4 on Frequently asked Questions will be found very handy by all students who have to move from one stage to another in their training through success in evaluations. The answers are provided together with appropriate reference pages in the text. This is certainly reader-friendly.

The concept of this book and its arrangement are brilliant. However, it requires from the student prior education on the topic to realize its full potential. The arrangement is similar to a power-point presentation which a presenter essentially uses as a prompt. Even if it will increase the volume of the text (and this cannot be by very much), adequate exposition of the points with full sentences should be made. The excessive use of asterisks and bullets without explicit articulation very much detracts from the potential of this book
