It has been my pleasure to observe some universal threads that are commonly encountered running through all my dealings with forensic and police artists, and that is their total lack of artistic ego, thoughtfulness and unswerving desire to share information and techniques that would help us all achieve a very high standard of work.

Im happy to say that after reading 'Forensic Sculpting - Step by Step in Photo's' and interviewing the author, Seth Wolfson is in no way any different, and true to form has passed on to his reader a host of useful tips and guidance that will help the novice, student, or professional sculptor create more precise and lifelike work.

In my own country there is little or no civilian opportunity to train as a forensic artist so other than receiving strong advice and test cases from established artists and the delight of attending workshops in the USA, Im pretty well left to learning all I can from whatever literature wherever available, typically this literature is of an exceptionally high standard and meticulously advises the reader of the finest details possible about the assorted techniques and duties of the student and professional in this field.

Seth's book although of equally high calibre has taken a rather different approach to the subject by steadily directing the reader through the various steps of the technique, while concentrating more heavily on how to use the materials and tools. the do's and don'ts of the matter. Which was an approach that I found refreshing and very informative.

...Seth's book although of equally high calibre has taken a rather different approach to the subject by steadily directing the reader through the various steps of the technique, while concentrating more heavily on how to use the materials and tools. the do's and don'ts of the matter. Which was an approach that I found refreshing and very informative...

As a painter by trade, sculpture is still something of a new discipline to me and the nuggets of good advice that was gleaned from 'Forensic Sculpting - Step by Step in Photo's' (of which there are many) have taken my sculpting skills to a much higher level than would otherwise have been the case if I had not had to opportunity to study this book.

Seth manages to pass down in one compact volume a battery of useful tricks and tips gained from his years of professional experience working as both a forensic and special effects sculptor (and very grateful this particular artist is too!).

He has directed his guidance not only to his fellow professional or student but also to the next generation of young artists wishing to find out a little more information about what is involved. Who might not be able to afford the high prices of the recommended training literature, but can spend a little pocket money on a book that will show them how the job is essentially done. Therefore a tread of safety advice and guidance for the younger reader and their parents is evident throughout this book.

All in all there is something for everybody to take away with them in this book and I wish it and the author well.
